The Night Max Wore His Wolf Suit

18" x 36" acrylics on canvas. 2012.

Giclée edition is almost sold out.

I originally painted The Night Max Wore His Wolf Suit for a 2013 exhibition I participated in with fellow artist Mike Capp at LTD Gallery in Seattle. The show was titled Icons and Influences, and it paid homage to many of the books, films, and other media that inspired and shaped our art and creative process. Years later, the city of Altoona, IA, asked me to paint the image on the back of their police station. I thought the idea was hilarious, so I happily agreed. My son, Calvin, and fellow artist Mike Capp helped paint the 25' x 50' monstrosity.

The Night Max Wore His Wolf Suit combines the characters from Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak with the composition from movie poster for The Usual Suspects.

11" x 17" Open Edition Prints

Open edition prints are UNFRAMED and unsigned laser reproductions printed on 11″x17″ acid-free heavyweight paper. Each print is packaged in cellophane and shipped rolled in a tube. The image includes a white border with the title, making it easy and affordable to frame without the need for a mat. Fits standard 11″x17″ frames, widely available at most frame or craft stores, as well as online. See example image below.

Giclée Prints

Giclée prints are high-quality reproductions known for their accurate colors and longevity, closely resembling the original artwork. Each print is signed and numbered by Justin Hillgrove, with editions ranging from 10 to 250 across watercolor and canvas giclées of various sizes. Prints should be kept away from high UV light. Justin may enhance, embellish, or remarque prints and, in rare cases, create additional reproductions outside an edition.

Watercolor Giclée Prints (Prep time: 1-3 days)

Watercolor giclé prints are created on lightly-textured, heavy cotton paper using fully archival inks. A small white border is included in order to facilitate matting (currently 1″ on all sides). It is recommended that you  take your print straight to a framer, and keep it protected until then to avoid damage. Water, your hands, hard objects & adhesives can damage the surface of your print. See sample images below.

Stretched Canvas Giclée (Prep time: Up to 2 weeks)

Stretched canvas giclée prints are produced on artist-quality, archival canvas with fully archival inks, (print-permanence rated at 100 – 200 years on canvas). All canvas prints have a coat of UV inhibiting varnish. Your canvas comes stretched and back-stapled to a 3/4″ wooden frame, with black sides, ready to hang on a wall.  Note: Due to some health issues, starting November 2024, most canvas printing and stretching will be outsourced, so you may see minor differences in color, sheen, stretcher bars, etc. from those you may have received previously. Justin has done a lot of research, testing, ordering, etc. to find a partner that produces canvases whose quality is as close as possible to his own. Canvases will still be signed/numbered by Justin. See example images below.
